It is also the crossing point to Hrísey island, by the ferry Sævar.

三、经济发展和规模

Hrísey is truly unique. It is the pearl of Eyjafjörður and Iceland’s sec- ond largest island after Heimaey Island. It has a flourishing commu- nity, magnificent panoramic views of the fjord and a rich birdlife. It is believed that up to 40 bird species nest on the island where as the ptarmigan (Lagopus mutus) is the most prominent.

There are several marked trails on the island and the small seaside village with its flourishing local gardens is enjoyable to visit.

Sailing to the island with the ferry Sævar only takes about 15 minutes. Departure is from the small harbor at the community Árskógssandur (35 km from Akureyri) on a regular basis (every two hours).

四、产业特点重点项目

At Árskógssandur you can find Bruggsmiðjan which produces the beer Kaldi, where you can order a presentation where the production and the history of the company are reviewed. The beer baths can also be found on Árskógssandur, but they are unique in Iceland. In Bjórböðin you can either bathe in beer or in the outdoor pots that offer magnificent views. There is also a delicious restaurant where you can enjoy dishes from a varied menu, but there is a particularly popular so-called Kaldaborgar.

The proximity to nature is great and there are many hiking trails suitable for everyone in the area.

See you on Árskógssandur and enjoy all the wonderful things the village has to offer. Experience the tranquility, the security and the wonderful view.

Árskógssandur provides a variety of services for the village itself and the inhabitants of the surrounding countryside, as well as possessing a wealth of great natural beauty. Children brought up in such an environment are, indeed, fortunate, as they learn to respect nature as well as having, "on tap", an important aid to their development.

There is plenty to do and see around Árskógsströnd; the Kaldi brewery and the first Beer Spa in the nordic countries besides interesting day trips around the area which are operated by several companies. Bruggsmidjan Kaldi was founded in 2006 by Agnes and Ólafur. Ólafur had been a fisherman for 26 years but in 2003 he got injured in his knee during his time at sea. Ólafur and his wife, Agnes, were looking at difficult times because there was no other work in their little town Árskógssandur. Everything was about the fish during that time. Two years later, in June 2005, Agnes was watching television when she saw an interview about a Microbreweries and their overall increasing popularity around the world.

The interview was about a small microbrewery located in Denmark. At that time there were no microbreweries in Iceland, only two large mass production breweries, Vífilfell and Ölgerðin. Agnes had always talked about how lucky they were to have such good and clean water in our little town that comes out of a spring from a mountain that stands above Árskógssandur, then she got this crazy idea: Let’s open a microbrewery! You would think that it took a while to convince her husband but that was not the case and only a week later they were off to Denmark to visit that same brewery she had seen on the news. The Danish brewery helped them a lot and gave them good ideas and advice, they pointed out that Czech beer has good quality style and ingredients.

Czech Republic is famous around the world for their quality made and unique beer. This trip to Denmark inspired Agnes and Ólafur and they saw a chance to make a new beer for the Icelandic market. They wanted quality made beer with a lot of taste so they chose a Pilsner style beer, made by the century old Czech brewing method. They had two choices, buy a recipe or get their own brew master to make their own beer from their ideas. They chose the second choice and by a miracle they got in touch with David Masa through a brewery equipment manufacturer.

David is a Czech brew master in fourth generation and has studied brewing for 9 years. He has specialized in helping microbreweries get on their feet all over the world. In October 2005 they made purchase agreements on brewery equipment in Czech Republic and in December that year Bruggsmidjan Kaldi was formally founded. In March 2006, a 380 square meter sized house rose in the small town Árskógssandur, population 100. Árskógssandur is located 35 km from Akureyri and 12 km from Dalvík. First beer was brewed on August 22nd and first bottling on September 28th. Kaldi formally opened on September 30th 2006. Our goal was to make a high quality beer and chose the best ingredients available. All ingredient comes from Czech Republic and then we use our Icelandic water that comes from a mountain called Sólarfjall. The outcome is Kaldi: Icelandic beer, brewed by century old Czech method, unpasteurized, without preservatives and added sugar.

To start with we expected our annual production to be 160,000 liters per year. But the demand was more than expected so in 2007 we decided to add more fermentation tanks and increase our fermentation space by 12,000 liters. By then our annual production was 300,000 liters per year. In 2008 we had to expand more and added more fermentation space, around 12,000 liters in November. In 2011 our factory was expanded by half and moved our “bottling machine” over to the new house. We added more tanks and increased our fermentation space by 12,000 liters and then again in 2014! In 2015 a small 50 square meter house was added for the fermentation tanks, 12,000 more liters added, new filter bought for our brewers and a keg filling and cleaning machine to save us a little bit more time! In the year 2015 our annual production is 650,000 liters per year! The plan for 2016 is to build a 280 square meter warehouse.

六、历史文化

1.历史

The period from 1930 to 1950 was undoubtedly the biggest boom for the island. There was a lot of herring salting and the deep-sea fishing was very successful. The population multiplied during these years. Young girls eager to work flocked to Hrísey from all over Iceland. The life during these days is still a matter of discussion on many elderly homes far and wide across the country. Stories are told about the wonderful evenings when the midnight sun would play on the peaks of the mountains and young people went hand in hand on the island. The setting sun would dance across the ocean in the dusk and the ground and the heather were so soft and gave off such a pleasant smell. Young people found love on that fairy tale island and kept it forever in their heart. A joke from the period reflects the atmosphere best: A young girl was asked if she had ever been married. "No," she replied, "But I've been to Hrísey Island." [Þorsteinn Þorsteinsson’s narrative in the book “Þekktu bæinn þinn” (e. Know your town) by the historian Jón Hjaltason.]

Hrísey - The pearl of Eyjafjörður

Hrísey is truly unique. It is the pearl of Eyjafjörður and Iceland’s sec- ond largest island after Heimaey Island. Trails

There are various marked trails on the island with signs with infor- mation about the flora, fauna, geology and the island’s history.

The Energy Zone

The eastern part of Hrísey is said to be full of energy and is con- sidered to be the second most powerful area in Iceland after Mt. Snæfellsjökull Glacier. The energy is transferred to Hrísey from the stunningly beautiful Mt. Kaldbakur across the fjord. Here you can sit down and enjoy the scenery while inhaling positive and relaxing energy (see map).

The Bull of Þorgeir

The Saga of Þorgeirsboli, The Bull of Þorgeir, one of Iceland’s most vicious ghost is said to originate from Hrísey. The ghost-bull’s pres- ence was often sensed late at night in the countryside, when his dark, devastating moos would rumble the earth. Those who saw him and lived to describe it have reported him appearing as a dog, a cat and a string of fog, although most see a skeleton-bull dragging its bloody loose skin behind on its tail.
