三、经济发展和规模

The main industry of the villagers is the fishing industry, as well as services to and tourists which is a growing industry. The growth of tourism has been noticeable in the life of Breiðdalsvík. No one should be surprised because the beauty in Breiðdalur leaves no one untouched. Breiðdalur is a vast countryside compared to other valleys that enter from the Eastfjords. Breiðdalsvík, which is the district's service center, is a relatively young town and did not begin to be built to a large extent until the 1960s. The settlement of Breiðdalsvík is not known with full certainty until around 1880, when Gránufélagið had a warehouse built there. Permanent residence was not there until 1896, when Brynesverslun in Seyðisfjörður built a house for its operations at the top of Selnes at the eastern corner of Selnesbót. There is a long tradition of fish processing on site, although its importance has diminished in recent years and decades. In the spring of 1906, the shopping center burned to the ground and a new shopping center was built west of the bay. That house still stands and is therefore considered the oldest house in Breiðdalsvík.

In Breiðdalsvík, the handicraft brewery and the bar Beljandi are run. The company has been operating since 2017 and usually offers 4-5 types of beer. It is mostly sold locally, but also in some good places in the Eastfjords during the summer and can also be found in Reykjavík and Akureyri occasionally. The bar in Breiðdalsvík is open every night during the summer but is closed mostly during the winter. In Breiðdalsvík we receive groups, large and small most days of the year. There you can taste our beers and at the same time get an introduction to the company and the brewing process.

Gamla Kaupfélagshúsið, the oldest house in Breiðdalsvík, has been renovated and now houses a geological center. It is well suited because the Austfjörður volcano is in Breiðdalur. The building also houses the room of Stefán Einarsson, a professor at John Hopkins University in Baltimore.

In Breiðdalsvík and in Breiðdalur there are various good hiking trails. It is fun to walk up to the Caves above the town but from there there is a great view. In Breiðdalur there is a beautiful mountain range and magnificent waterfalls. A short walk from the road to Beljanda, the lowest waterfall in Breiðdalsá, is exceptionally beautiful by the old bridge over Tinnudalsá. You can also walk along Meleyri, which lies south of Breiðdalsvík.

四、产业特点重点项目

Breiðdalsvík in East Iceland is a regional tourism concept and labor of love launched by local resident and entrepreneur Friðrik Árnason. Originally from Njarðvík in southwest Iceland, Friðrik first fell in love with the tiny town of Breiðdalsvík when he moved his family there in 2009 to renovate and re-open boutique Hotel Bláfell.

With over twenty years ’experience working in Iceland’s travel industry, he envisions the potential of Breiðdalsvík in East Iceland as a stand-alone destination ideal for visitors seeking off-the-beaten-path travel experiences in unspoiled nature. Acquiring several local travel companies, the Breiðdalsvík family of brands now includes 46-room Hotel Bláfell, The View Apartment Hotel, Travel East tour operator, The Old General Store and The Fish Factory event venue.

Friðrik shares his time between Reykjavík and Breiðdalsvík while diligently working to enhance the visitor experience and promoting the community’s long-term development through his unique tourism strategy and vision.

The exhibition about Axel Helgason is an interesting story of a craftsman who focused on his interests with an ideal. His victories consisted solely in putting his ideas into practice. In 1934 he made his first embossed model of Iceland and it is on display in the Frystihúsið in Breiðdalsvík. Later in life, he made the map on display at Reykjavík City Hall, which is one of the largest man-made maps in the world.

In Breiðdalsvík and in Breiðdalur there are various good hiking trails. It is fun to walk up to the Caves above the town but from there there is a great view. 3. Breiðdalseldstöðin

4.png

Breiðdalseldisstöð is an ancient main volcano in Breiðdalur and Berufjörður, the site of detailed research by the English geologist Georges D.L. Walker, along with others in the East. This volcano is adorned with large riolet intrusions with majestic and unique peaks, Flagutindi in Breiðdalur, Smátindur, Röndólfur, Slötti and Stöng. The southern slopes of Breiðdalur are particularly colorful and the rock layers are irregular, with a lot of volcanic formations.

The volcano is believed to reach between Fossárfjall south of Berufjörður north of Bæjartind up from Þorgrímsstaðir in Breiðdalur. Its western slopes follow Ófærunöf to the west, but the eastern slope is very desolate but certainly stretches east of Kerlingartindur south of Fagradalur in Breiðdalur. The southern part of Breiðdalur, near the middle of the volcano, is buried and the fun heat transformed the rock so much that the bluish stone and the antithesis became light green. It is therefore difficult to distinguish these rocks from the rhyolite. This transformation is one of the clearest at Innri-Ljósá and Blágil.

The series of peaks mentioned above was formed later, when a riolet stepped up to the surface through the layers of bluish ore and formed yellow on top of thick layers of tuff on the crater rim. Their remains are found in rhyolite cliffs in many parts of the area. The Breiðdalur volcano is considered younger than the Álftafjörður and Reyðarfjörður volcanoes and the pyroclastic layer on top of the Reyðarfjörður Act has been traced. It will have come from Röndólfur, covers approx. 430 km² and is 6 m. thickness. This song is named after the mountain Skessa south of the bottom of Reyðarfjörður.

The old Kaupfélagið now has a geological center and there is a memorial room with Stefán Einarsson, professor at Johns Hopkins University in the USA, who was from Breiðdalur. The old telephone exchange is Steinasafn Breiðdals. In the village there is a hotel that is open all year round and there is also a school and swimming pool, a shop and a car workshop.

Breiðdalsvík is one of the few places in Iceland that has been bombed, but on the morning of September 10, 1942, a German military plane attacked the residential building Hamar and shot at it with machine gun explosives.
