五、风景名胜,景点( attractions)

1. VÍNLANDSSETRIÐ

2.png

In Vínlandssetur you will find an exhibition about the settlement of the Nordic people in Greenland and a meeting of America long before the days of Christopher Columbus. Two Icelandic sagas, Grænlendingasaga and Eiríkssaga rauða, tell about the settlement of the Nordic people in Greenland, how Leifur found America and about the first man of European descent who was born there.

Now, more than 1,000 years later, archeological research shows that the stories seem to be well-founded. The exhibition is on the upper floor of an old warehouse and shop in a beautiful location by the harbor in Búðardalur, which is at the bottom of Hvammsfjörður. The exhibition is structured with audio guidance. On the ground floor of the house you will find a restaurant where you can get light meals and good coffee.

2. Eiriksstadir

3.png

In Eiríksstadir you can travel a thousand years back in history, hear a story by the long fire and see how people lived in the times of Eric the Red. This is a very nice living history museum. The Erik we visited with was a local farmer and very knowledgeable. It's too bad the fire was noticeably gas but the other trappings of Viking life looked authentic. We were allowed as much time as we wanted in the long house and on the grounds. Visit the gift shop for authentic Iceland handcrafts and cheeky Viking souvenirs. Well worth the side trip and admission. Travel back in time to see how 20 to 30 people lived together 1000 years ago in this reconstructed long house. Our historical interpreter talked about the various weapons and crafts from this era. children used bones for toys. Men played ice hockey and used bones for skates and propelled themselves with sticks. There were no windows in the long house and only a hole for smoke from the fire. It is located on the site of the home of Erik the Red, father of the legendary Viking Leif Eirksson.

六、历史文化

1.历史

The village has a long history, dating from the time of the first settlements in Iceland. The name means "Camp Valley", or more etymologically straightforward "Boothdale"; it is where settlers had temporary camps when coming to the area. In 1899, Búðardalur was officially granted the right of commerce. An old house from this time still exists.

In Laxdælasaga, Búðardalur is mentioned and it is said that Höskuldur Dala-Kollsson landed his ship inside Laxárós when he came from a trip to Norway and had the maid Melkorka with him: within Laxá and makes a tail there and sees the ruin he had the tail made. There he pitched a tent and it is called Búðardalur. Then Hauskuld had the wood brought home, and it was possible, for it was not a long way. "

Trade began in Búðardalur in 1899 when Bogi Sigurðsson, a merchant, built the first house there, which was both a residential and a commercial building. This house was later moved to Selfoss and still stands there. At the turn of the century, Kaupfélag Hvammsfjarðar started a retail operation in Búðardalur and was almost dominant there until it went bankrupt in 1989.

Eiríksstaðir, the farm of Eiríkur rauða, is not far from Búðardalur. Eiríkur lived there before he went to Greenland. Just outside the village are Höskuldsstaðir, where Höskuldur Dala-Kollsson lived and also Hjarðarholt, where Ólafur pái lived. Hallgerður langbrók and Ólafur pái were Höskuld's children at Höskuldsstaðir. Eiríksstaðir has a hypothetical town that is open to tourists.

Before, Búðardalur was the main farm in the valley, but now there is no farming there. The town is within Tinda. A church stood in the valley until the middle of the 19th century and Búðardalur was a church. When Magnús Ketilsson (1732-1803), a magistrate, lived on the farm, significant experiments were made in agriculture and horticulture. He managed to grow barley in the valley and then he wrote some instructions for farmers.

Magnús was responsible for the first magazine printed in Iceland at Hrappseyjarprentsmiðja. And Magnús can be considered one of the most significant Icelanders of the 18th century.Karl Þórðarson lived in Búðardalur and his grandson, Svavar, was the last farmer in Búðardalur. The descendants of Karl Þórðarson have lived in the area since he moved to Búðardalur now in Klifmýri as well as Geirmundarstaðir.

2. 文化体育

Dalahestar Horse Rental offers riding tours in small groups in the pristine nature of West Iceland. The tours are personalized and suitable for both beginners and advanced riders. The most popular and appreciated route on our repertoire is a two hours beach tour. The horses were friendly and independent. Unlike other riding tours I have been on, the horses did not follow the leader but listened to the rider. Carolyn guided us through the landscape, telling us the area's history and regularly checked in with each of us that we were OK. We were given ample opportunities to experience tölt and pace, with Carolyn explaining the differences and instructing how to ask for the various gaits. I was on Fjöl, who I was told might be a bit slow but when I asked for trot, tölt or pace she responded quickly and energetically. On our return, the horses were untacked and let out into the yard to roll and relax.

Overall, this is the best riding tour I have been on in Iceland. The people are friendly and considerate. The horses well looked after and eager. The stables and yard is clean and tidy. When Klofasteinar was moved in 1995. Here is an interview with Hermann Bjarnason, a farmer in Leiðólfsstaðir in Laxárdalur. Thanks to Brynjólfur Gunnarsson in Búðardalur for sending us the recording. As many people are now sitting at home due to the situation, we would like to share with you the documentary, My Father's Land, by Olaf De Fleur which was released in 2011.

One of the most remarkable settler women, Auður djúpúðga Ketilsdóttir, took land by Hvammsfjörður. She built her farm in Hvammur and is buried there on the shore. Later a large family, Sturlungar, was named in Hvammur, named after Sturli Þórðarson in Hvammur. We still live in Hvammur and there is a farm and a church that was built 1883-1884.
