2.The old town hall and the school

 99.png

The Château Bel-Air is located on the town of Hailsham, a few kilometers west of Bordeaux Merignac.

It was built in the sixteenth century as a simple home of one floor in a green environment. Then, in 1840, Francisco Antonio de Los Heros, its new owner, conducts reshuffles: he raise the main building by providing it with an additional floor and gives the area the Bel Air castle name. In addition, the facade of the castle is decorated with a noble decoration, such pediments surmounting the openings. In the park, finally, decorative elements or pleasure are emphasized, like a fountain of the seventeenth century with its buffet of water adorned with a mask that evokes the fountain of Saint-up project or that of the Farms hotel Bordeaux.

In 1986 the castle and its grounds are purchased by the football club Girondins de Bordeaux. 11 hectares are landscaped grounds in natural or synthetic grass, a jogging path, including the castle itself harboring administrative services. The site is home to the training center and the club's training center.

Access is occasionally open to the public to attend including workouts.

VI.History

The place seems to have initially been a rural domain, where Bordeaux families had maintained agricultural properties, the Bourdieux, since the Middle Ages. The Château Bel Air, current seat of the F.C. des Girondins de Bordeaux, is one of the vestiges of this period, like La Morandière.

Towards the end of the Hundred Years' War, two battles bloodied its lands, known as the Male Jornade (1450) and the Missed Day (1453).

On the map of Cassini (1740) appears the place called "le Haillan" (in italics on the map of Cassini) in the immediate vicinity of the site of the village of "Sainte Christine" (Roman right on the map of Cassini) which could be a parish. Currently, a street in Haillan is called: "rue Sainte Christine".

The town was created under Napoleon III, on March 9, 1867, from a partition of that of Eysines.

From the 1970s, the city took advantage of the aerospace and aeronautics industry to expand and increase its population, close to 10,000 inhabitants (2011 census).

Le Haillan was born in the countryside. Since the end of the Middle Ages, the rich Bordeaux families placed part of their income in the “bourdieux”, vast agricultural estates ensuring good profitability. Haillan, with its soils suitable for cultivation and breeding, had several.

Some of these beautiful residences still exist in La Morandière, Hustin and of course in Bel Air, with the famous Château des Girondins.

The old chapel of Saint Christine, patron saint of Haillan, probably built under Louis XIV, has now disappeared and the Church of Notre Dame de la Merci is only a little over a century old.

Officially the town was born late, on March 9, 1867, by decree of Napoleon III comforting the 900 inhabitants of the time who felt a bit like a forgotten dependency of Eysines. The Town Hall was built in 1883, the old post office in 1902 and the municipal school in 1910.

Since then, Haillan and its town have continued to expand and modernize, benefiting from the 1970s on the economic development of the airport area and aerospace-related industries.

Residential outskirts of the Bordeaux urban area, the city of Haillan attempts to strike a balance between modernity and natural spaces, it is now cultivating the quality of its living environment.

It is in Haillan that the Château Bel Air is located, the headquarters and training center of the Football Club des Girondins de Bordeaux.

Culture

Equipped with a 460-seat performance hall, the Entrepôt, with a varied program, the city offers many other cultural events, including concerts in smaller venues or lectures and readings in its 600 m2 media library.

With a rich community life, the city has around 5,000 licensees in various fields. In addition to sport, culture plays an important part: twinnings, music, dance, plastic arts, theater.

Each year is punctuated by regular meetings. In September, a major cultural event takes place, "Le Haillan est dans la Place", which offers concerts, ambulatory shows and fireworks. The Spring Festival, in May, organizes various events around sustainable development: meetings, concerts, green walks.
